Internships

Thank you for your interest in the Justice and Reconciliation Project’s Internship Programme.

We accept applications from qualified national and international candidates to serve in voluntary, semester-long internships where they will assist staff in a wide variety of projects, including research and advocacy, community mobilisation, documentation, communications, technical support, the arts, and grassroots NGO administration.

We are currently accepting applications for the Fall (August-December) semester. The deadline is July 15, 2010.

Guidelines

Eligibility: All interested persons (national & international) who meet the following criteria are eligible to apply:

•Previous experience living and working in a developing country

•Strong writing and research skills

•Experience writing policy-relevant reports

•Experience working or researching in the field of transitional justice

•Ability to work in difficult conditions

•Ability to work in a multi-cultural team

•Flexibility and willingness to work in constantly changing circumstances

Application Process: In order to apply for a JRP internship, please submit the following:

1.Internship application (Download it here- Word or PDF)

2.Updated CV

3.Writing sample of approximately 3 pages

4.University transcript (Unofficial is acceptable)

5.At least two letters of reference (Non-family)

6.Cover letter (1-2 pages only) that answers the following questions:

  •Why do you want to do this internship?

  •What expectations do you have from JRP?

  •What skills can you offer the team?

  •What experience do you have working in a multi-cultural and challenging environment?

Please note that only those individuals whose qualifications match the current needs of the organization will be considered applicants and will receive responses from JRP. The process is competitive and only a few interns will be selected each year. Decisions regarding internships will be made within a month of receiving the application, unless otherwise indicated. An interview (phone or in-person) will be involved after candidates are short-listed. Interns will be based in Gulu, Uganda, but may be asked to periodically travel with JRP to communities across northern Uganda. All internship positions are unpaid and voluntary, and JRP cannot provide for travel or living expenses.

*Starting dates are flexible, but JRP requires interns to serve for a minimum of three months. Preference is given to those who can commit for a longer period of time. Current students, as well as recent graduates, are encouraged to apply.
